Since the time of ancient Greece and Rome, amulets were common to win the favor of the gods, obtain good omens or combat the evil eye. One of the most important symbols was the “Fascinus”, a phallus that could present a great variety of modifications. Its origin is very ancient, associated with the Greek god of fertility, who in the Roman world was usually called Fascinus or associated with Bacchus.

The “fascinators” were those who were credited with the ability to cause the evil eye through spells. Against them, it was common to use the phallic amulet.
